Message from Sanford Shrout and Mountain Lion Quotas

Dear Houndsmen:

Recently several MSHA members attended a meeting of the Bitterroot Houndsmen in Hamilton. One of the speakers was FWP Commissioner Victor Workman. Mr. Workman made the statement that he intends to seek permits for Region Two when the season structure meeting comes up in December.

MSHA had a business meeting at the May Field Trial near Potomac and this matter was discussed and a vote taken. Many of the houndsmen were out looking for their dogs, but the vote was 21 members for the current quota system and 0 votes for permits.

We would, at this time, like to ask your opinion. Are you for the Quota System or for the Permit System? Please respond with your comments, the region in which you live, where you hunt and any other ideas you might have.

This matter is very important to all of us and we'll be discussing your opinions and comments and forming a plan of action at the June Field Trial Business meeting near Boulder. Please attend this June 2 meeting and make your voice heard. Remember, you must be a paid member to vote. We would like and need your support.

Sincerely,
Sanford Shrout, Chairman of the Board
